As a distributor you
are purchasing the product and then selling it (or distributing it). A
distributor can mark up the price to cover additional market costs,
distribution, invoicing. A distributor has a strong relationship with his
customers and is responsible for after sales service. There are many more
differences between representatives and distributors, however, since they
vary depending upon company, the ones mentioned will suffice for our
examples here.
We will use Marty
again as an example of a distributor since he did eventually leave the china
company and opened his own office. He became a distributor for a number of
different products. He would purchase glasses, flatware, and mugs wholesale
and then resell them to the various restaurants and other establishments.
Last time I spoke with him, he was doing quite well for himself.
SMC, is a very well
known company that many (including us a number of years back) become
distributors for. They have a variety of different programs for their
distributors and their products are excellent. In fact, we kept ours and
they sit throughout our home. However, again, we found it just wasnt for
us, and we stopped. Kept the stuff we had and stopped doing it without
another thought. A wonderful option for anyone, and an option a lot more
involved and difficult when it is your own business. Just another plus of
being a distributor, representative or affiliate.
We will show you
how to become a distributor or representative. Again, depending on the
company you can have full responsibility for the business aspects or a
limited one.
Many businesses were started on
the premise of getting representatives or distributors to sell their
products. Avon, Mary Kay, Amway, Vitamin supplement companies and rug
cleaning companies are just a few examples of companies that based their
business model on the representative or distributor.
However, whether with your own
business or as a rep, you still have to know how to set up and operate to be
successful, and that is where we come in.
One of the best ways to learn
about something is by example and for someone to show you how to do it
and/or how it operates. We thought the best way to show you how a
distributor or representative program would work is to provide concrete
examples of a existing product. We chose our Hot Rods & Models Vintage DVD
from our Car Culture Collection, as it one that can be done on or off line,
and one that has great income potential. Of course, all of our reps and
distributors are not limited to just one DVD. They are free to work with our
entire collection. This DVD just makes a very good example for our purposes
here.
