World War II
The Home Front Chronicles
Volume 4
For a small taste of this great DVD,
watch the preview below.
WW II: The Home Front Chronicles is an 8 DVD set that spans the years
1941 to 1945. From the opening 1941 documentary film Ring of Steel, which is
narrated by Spencer Tracy to the last film, Combat America (1945) narrated
by Clark Gable (and in many scenes too) you get the sense and feel of what
the American people were going through, the love for this country, the
pride, and yes, fear for the young men and women putting their lives on the
line.
However, there is a feeling throughout all the films that America would
prevail, we would win no matter what it took. That is the America, and the
people I will always remember and be thankful to. It makes me not only stand
a bit taller, but also proud to be an American. To see the sacrifices
our parents, grandparents and those still living from this greatest
generation went through, is humbling. Personally I think we have lost this
feeling, but then again that is just my opinion and what is so nice is that
I can be free to have an opinion. Thanks to them. Enjoy and watch the people
that made this country the great one it is today!
This series is mainly concerned with how the folks stateside supported
those overseas, their contribution and sacrifices and how they were an
integral part of the war effort.
Volume 4 runs over an hour.
The 1943 film Manpower shows the battle for industrial production
during World War II; and how we had to look for people to take over the jobs
our military workers left to help the war effort. 8:32
The 1943 documentary, Food for Fighters is about the importance of
nutrition during wartime, and making sure nutritious food was fed to our
armed forces. Brought to our attention is that dehydrated and process food
was developed during that time. 9:50
1944
The 1944 film, It Can't Last is aimed at the home front and an
attempt to increase mobilization. It shows the efforts of the troops in
contrast to a civilian's idea that the war can't last much longer.18:29
Supervising Women Workers was made in 1944. Woman’s Lib wasn’t even a
term back then. So how the special problems of women workers are addressed
was done in a very different light. This was life back in 1944 and the movie
shows it, and the very important part woman workers played in the war
effect. 10:10
The 1944 film, A Letter From Bataan is a tribute to our soldiers who
fought in World War II; and historically shows the suffering of our soldiers
during war, and the sacrifices the civilians at home had to make.
It is a superbly done film, with Susan Hayward,
as one of the many stars . 14:12
The 1944 film, Highballing to Victory is all about transportation in
wartime and that means the importance of rubber in wartime. The film shows
the importance of the tire during war, and one of the many reasons we won WW
II. 10:48
