World War II
The Home Front Chronicles
Volume 7

For a small taste of this great DVD,
watch the preview below.

WW II: The Home Front Chronicles is an 8 DVD set that spans the years 1941 to 1945. From the opening 1941 documentary film Ring of Steel, which is narrated by Spencer Tracy to the last film, Combat America (1945) narrated by Clark Gable (and in many scenes too) you get the sense and feel of what the American people were going through, the love for this country, the pride, and yes, fear for the young men and women putting their lives on the line.

However, there is a feeling throughout all the films that America would prevail, we would win no matter what it took. That is the America, and the people I will always remember and be thankful to. It makes me not only stand a bit taller, but also proud to be an American.  To see the sacrifices our parents, grandparents and those still living from this greatest generation went through, is humbling. Personally I think we have lost this feeling, but then again that is just my opinion and what is so nice is that I can be free to have an opinion. Thanks to them. Enjoy and watch the people that made this country the great one it is today!

This series is mainly concerned with how the folks stateside supported those overseas, their contribution and sacrifices and how they were an integral part of the war effort.

Volume 7 runs over an hour.

1945

Narrated by Henry Fonda, the 1945 film, It's Everybody's War is a wonderfully made film that shows the sacrifices of American civilians and soldiers during World War II. We see the struggle of commitment by Americans as we were losing our boys and the realization if they increased production, and rationed everything, that would increase the speediness of the boys coming home. A must see and something that should be required for all High School history classes to show their students. 15:07

The 1945 film, Mr. and Mrs. America is about mobilizing citizens on the home front in World War II. The importance of buying war bonds, with even FDR adding his plea. Lots of war footage, with Eddie Albert appearing at the end of the movie. 12:44

The 1945 documentary film, The Town, directed by Josef von Sternberg, shows life during wartime in the town of Madison, Indiana. As a bonus you get to reminisce as you see the bowling alleys, schools, malt shops and all the marvelous landmarks that are gone in so many towns today. 10:11

The suggestions war plant workers made that helped to make things more efficient and economical is showcased in the 1945 film, Suggestion Box. We get to see the success these suggestions made in saving time, increasing safety and cutting down on the number of workers needed to do certain jobs. 8:53

The 1945 film, My Japan will not be for everyone, so I want to warn you beforehand that there is a great deal of EXPLICIT RACISM AND EXTREME VIOLENCE. Japan was our enemy during WW II and the film was made to re-enforce that message to Americans. Having said that the film is excellent for it’s genre. Everyone needs to remember that this was a time of war, with Japan provoking us, and political correctness was not an issue back then.  16:03
