World War II
The Home Front Chronicles
Volume 8
For a small taste of this great DVD,
watch the preview below.
WW II: The Home Front Chronicles is an 8 DVD set that spans the years
1941 to 1945. From the opening 1941 documentary film Ring of Steel, which is
narrated by Spencer Tracy to the last film, Combat America (1945) narrated
by Clark Gable (and in many scenes too) you get the sense and feel of what
the American people were going through, the love for this country, the
pride, and yes, fear for the young men and women putting their lives on the
line.
However, there is a feeling throughout all the films that America would
prevail, we would win no matter what it took. That is the America, and the
people I will always remember and be thankful to. It makes me not only stand
a bit taller, but also proud to be an American. To see the sacrifices
our parents, grandparents and those still living from this greatest
generation went through, is humbling. Personally I think we have lost this
feeling, but then again that is just my opinion and what is so nice is that
I can be free to have an opinion. Thanks to them. Enjoy and watch the people
that made this country the great one it is today!
This series is mainly concerned with how the folks stateside supported
those overseas, their contribution and sacrifices and how they were an
integral part of the war effort.
Volume 8 runs over an hour.
The 1945 film, Remember These Faces is very intense war bond
movie, so again view at your own discretion, there are numerous gory scenes
of American soldiers during combat. The movie shows the human cost of war
and should be required viewing. 17:18
The 1945 movie, Combat America is narrated by
Clark Gable and he also appears in several short scenes. After his
wife, Carole Lombard was killed, Clark Gable joined up with the Army Air
Corps. Rather than send Clark into combat, they had him make a movie about
his combat group, the 351st Bombardier Group. The film follows the Flying
Fortress crews of the 351st Bombardment Group from the end of their training
at a Colorado training field to actual combat over Germany. We get to see
all aspects of the lives of gunners – combat, fun times, to the reality of
losing a comrade. 61:41
These are two great movies to finish out the 8 DVD set of the Home Front
Chronicles. They really capture the sacrifices, hopes, fears and successes
of both the soldiers and those fighting from the Home Front.
